Hospitals Building

Introduction

Hospitals Building is a structure specifically designed and constructed to support medical activities. This includes any building or part of a building used for purposes such as medical or other treatments, care of individuals with physical or mental illnesses, disease, or infirmity; care of infants, convalescents, or elderly individuals; and penal or correctional detention where inmates’ freedom is restricted. Institutional buildings typically offer sleeping accommodations for their occupants.

These Buildings and structures are under Group C shall be further subdivided as follows:

Penal and Mental Institutions

According to the Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services Department’s circular memorandum,

• A Fire NOC is required for buildings that exceed 15 meters in height but the setback of these buildings must be 6-7 meters as per the supreme court’s order

According to the Indian Medical Council and National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH),

• A Fire Safety Audit and certifications are mandatory, which shall be obtain by the competent person or charted fire auditor by the council

These are preliminary details drawn from the National Building Code of India. For more precise information, please refer to Table 7 of NBC 2016.

Notes

MOEFA System shall also include talk-back system and public address system for the occupancies given in the table for (d) (I) (iii) under A-5, (a) (I) (iv) and (a) (2) under C-I, and (a) (2) under D-I to D-5, in all buildings 15 m and above in height, except for A-3 and A-4 occupancies where these shall be provided for buildings of height 24 m and above. These shall also be provided in car parking areas more than 300 m2 and in multi-level car parking irrespective of their areas.

Automatic detection and alarm system are not required to be provided in car parking area. Such detection system shall however be required in other areas of car parking such as electrical rooms, cabins and other areas.

Buildings above 15 m in height are not to be permitted for occupancies A-I and A-2.

Required to be installed in basement, if area of basement exceeds 200 m2.

Required to be provided if basement area exceeds 200 m2.
Additional value given in parenthesis shall be added if basement area exceeds 200 m2.

Required to be provided for building with more than two storeys (Ground + One).

Required to be provided for building with height above 15m and above.
Sprinklers shall be fed water from both underground static water storage tank and terrace tank.
